We are staying in "Moon Tents" during our time here. These are basically raised canvas igloos with 2 full sized beds inside. They are really pretty nicely done except for the fact that it drops to 1-2 degrees overnight and they are not airtight. Combine Patagonian winds (upwards of 80Km and hour) and these temperatures and it makes for an interesting nights sleep - windy and chilly - but a unique experience non the less.
After awaking we did the dash to the shower blocks and were greeted again with sub-artic water temperatures and no towels - the locals must think we are crazy as we dash half nude and dripping back to the tents some 100 meters away.
After the showers we headed off for breakfast - suprise, suprise for the seventh straight day there was - eggs on flat bread - My kingdom for some bacon, a hash brown EVEN FRUIT....anything but luke warm eggs on stale bread! The highlight was Jeff again mistaking the Chilli sauce for BBQ sauce. :)
Following Breakfast Jeff and Dad spent some two and a half hours carefully arranging the camera mounts on our bikes to use the helmet cam we brought to record some of our rides. Eventually we got underway and went and took some great shots over the famed wooden bridge in the park and again partook in some great riding on gravel roads.
After our ride we met up with the group to head off to Lago Grey - Grey Lake. This was a great 20K trip where we got to see some beautiful scenery and a footbridge crossing this Lake / Rive which is the run off from the Grey Glacier - amazing to see how much water melts each day!
After footbridge we headed back to our bikes to find.....The Camera was missing. We are not sure if it got stolen or came off the bike - needless to say Dad and Jeff's mounting efforts went to waste - such a pity as I think this would have given some great videos of the fantastic riding conditions we are currently coming across.
When we got back to camp we decided to check out the lake that we are staying on the banks of. In Typical Munro Fashion and taking the Aussie Traveller experience to an new extreme we decided to make use of the 2 degree waters with a spot of Beer Fishing. This involved sitting on the banks of the river with beers placed in the waters to chill and being fished out with a big stick without falling in nor getting our riding boot wet. Al time went on and the stories got bigger this got tougher to do!
About eight O'Clock we headed back to camp for a BBQ that the Tour Crew put on - beautiful meat and great company and alas still no vegatables! :)
The funny moment of the night was at my expense unfortunately....After a few beers I decided to take a nap near one of the Crew's tents. As Dad and Jeff headed back to our Moon Tents they woke me only to experience "Spanish Dave". Apparently in my awaking haze I managed to speak all the Spanish words I have learnt in a hailstorm of Bueno, Mucho Gracias and Como estas? Needless to say that the group had a good laugh at my expense and I am still copping stick about it.
Our night was memorable for the adventures of Puma Mouse! Seeing as our tents are in the bush and not airtight they are easy targets for them local Mice who came in search of our food. Waking in the middle of the night to hear what sounded like a Puma rustling through our food bags, Dad and Jeff awoke to battle the mighty Pumas only to be confronted with the bravest Mice ever. These hearty souls defied Dad and Jeff's attempts to shoo them and during the night. These unsuccessful attempts included Mice running over arms, faces and at one point getting in Jeff's bed in between the sheets and chewing on his Thai Baby! Funny for the rest of us!
The next day was a quieter affair with the chance taken for a sleep in and to visit a local hotel on the Glacial lake for a great meal and some free WiFi to catch up on Blogs / emails etc. We finished the day with a merciful event - a hot shower! Pure Bliss!
Well that is all from me right now. We are having a ball and after the last 2 days feel well rested for the riding ahead. Missing you all and hope that our silly b log is adding some interest and insight into our journey!
