Day 12 - The Wild Wild West

Sorry for the lack of updates of late - to say that we have been a remote space of the world is an understatement. Electricity is a bonus in some of these towns - let's just say that the WiFi has been "basic"!

Well Day 12 started slowly for us as it was a day off and after going to the local community festival we had a bit of a sleep in. The Festival was a great family affair - South American timeframes are extremely different - Dinner is considered early at 9pm and the party went on well into the night with even the little kids up till 1-2am - On a School night! The music was very "authentic" with local talent, style and songs!

We ventured out for Breakfast and found a great little bakery - local pastries and Churros! Yum.

After breakfast we went for a little explore of the town - as you can see of the photo above it was a short explore. The town was only established in 1985 and yet looks like it was deserted 50 years ago. The building standards here are very different and apparently you do npot pay taxes until it is fully finished - There are a lot of family homes missing sections of walls, windows and even roofs!

Feeling a little seedy we headed back to the hotel and had a rest while some of the members of the group went on a hike (see above photo for the landscape).

Dinner was a group affair at a little restaraunt called Fuego (Fire) and was beuatiful - great steaks here! After a quick beer at the local Microbrewery and with a big day looming we headed back home for a good nights rest (despite the rural town we had a nice hostel where Dad even had his own room - a great break from his snoring!).

Argentina - The Beerscape!

Argentinians love their beer! Even more than Aussies! Beer is available everywhere pubs, supermarkets, Service Stations and even at the local Chemists!

With this in mind we thought we would update the top and bottom three beers we have tried.

Top Three

1. Beagle Beer - The best beer we have ever had! (And the Munro boys have sampled a few around the world - see picture above) Amazing - it is like Little Creatures but even better. Only available in Ushia - the southern most town in the world. Such a pity!

2. Austral - Translates as Southern Beer - Available in three varieties - Black, Blonde and Red. All fantastic and tasty. Only availab;le in Chile but a great drop.

3. Corona - What? Corona in South America. Yes! But not really a South American beer? True - but it is only served in 1 Litre bottles for less than $2 AUD. It is true - Bigger is better!

Bottom Three

1. Patagonicus - See picture above - The local beer at El Chalten - To say this beer is bad is an understatement - after many discussions we agreed the best way to explain the tast of beer is the smell that electrical fire produces has a taste - Patagonicus!

2. Quilmes - The national beer of Argentina - why I am not sure. This beer is crazy cheap (less than $1 AUD for a litre bottle in some places) yet tastes like VB that has been left in the sun for a week then rebottled!

3. Escudo - The National Beer of Chile - Wow! This was even cheaper than all the above - $1.50 AUD for a 6 pack! This was the beer we had when beer fishing! A shocker! So bad we ended up burying Jeff / Matty's shirt with gthe remaining Escudo! Good riddance!

Well that is all from us for this day....handing over to Jeff to update you on Day 13!
